Things to do in Yeosu

THINGS TO DO IN YEOSU

Annyeong! Some of you saw my photo on Instagram about I'm visiting one of the largest aquarium in South Korea and I can't wait to share the details with you guys today! Yes, today post is all about things to do in Yeosu which including attractions (Hanwha Aqua Planet Yeosu, AR Trick Eye Museum and Yeosu Maritime Cable Car), food recommendation, accommodation and transportation etc. Of course, I'm gonna share some of my personal experience during the trip as well.

TRANSFER TO YEOSU BY KTX

Korea’s express train also named the "KTX", is South Korea's high-speed rail system, operated by Korail. Construction began on the high-speed line from Seoul to Busan in 1992. KTX services were launched on April 1, 2004.

From Seoul Station, the KTX lines radiate with stops at Seoul Station, Yongsan Station towards Busan and Gwangju, and from Gangnam District's Suseo Station with intermediate stations in New Dongtan City and Seoul Subway Line 1's Jije Station in Pyeongtaek. A new line from Wonju to Gangneung was completed in December 2017 to serve the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.

Top speed for trains in regular service is currently 305 km/h (190 mph), though the infrastructure is designed for 350 km/h (217 mph).

In order to travel to Yeosu, we need to take KTX from Seoul Station to Yeosu-Expo Station.

The journey takes about 3.5 hours. The train is really comfortable where you can eat and chill in the train.

ABOUT YEOSU

Yeosu, meaning "good water in Korean," is a maritime city renowned for its pristine coastal scenery and a seemingly endless stretch of coastline. The city has become a rising tourist destination since hosting the 2012 World Expo, which promoted the importance of marine resources worldwide.

In addition to its scenic seascape, Yeosu has an archipelago of over 300 picturesque islands surrounding it. The Yeosu City Tour offers various courses that take visitors to see some of the city’s major attractions. The Yeosu City Tour covers the famous Odongdo Island and Hyangiram Hermitage, a small temple perched high on a coastal cliff. While the night course allows visitors to take in the magnificent night views of this beautiful port city, the themed bus tour takes visitors through the city's historic sites. The double-decker City Tour Bus is waiting for you to hop on and discover the beauty of Yeosu!

I'm so excited to pay a visit because I'm a huge fan of aquarium. Ever since I had visited Osaka Aquarium, I told myself if I got a chance to visit at least one aquarium in rach country, I feel blessed. And guess what, this aquarium ticked off on my bucket list now.

The English name comes from the Russian Белуха (Belukha), meaning "white". They are social and friendly by nature and hence get along very well with the human. I actually saw one during my FAM trip to Thailand. It was great to see them once again. They are so cute!

These seals are so cute especially the white seal with black dots. Each of them are so chubby in shape, I wish I can hug them personally. I can imagine if I lay down on their stomach, I will fall asleep instantly. Lol

Remember I blogged about this - the beautiful jellyfish tanks comes with colourful LED lights during my visit to Osaka Aquarium? Yes, I saw them again here! Truly beautiful even I saw them before.

There is Mermaid Show here too but unfortunately, we missed it due to we lost. We keep on taking photos and forgotten how to go to this space for the performance. Well, I don't want you guys missed the show, thus, I had decided to put the exhibition details as follows so you guys won't be missed.

  • AR Trick Eye Museum

The Trick Eye Museum is just located at the same building of the aquarium. It brings a new concept of culture and entertainment space, where visitors can explore 3D optical illusion paintings and installations by “becoming one” with the artworks.

Trick Eye is shortened from ‘Trick of the eye’ and refers to a traditional art technique Trompe-l’oeil that turns two-dimensional paintings into three-dimensional images through the use of optical illusions.

Paintings on museum walls, floors and ceilings come alive! Visitors are invited to step inside Trickeye paintings and installations and create their own original stories.

You will never find signs such as “Do not touch” in the museum. Visitors can freely touch and interact with all the displayed exhibits. Visitors can literally “become one” with artworks. Be a director, an actor and a photographer at the Trick Eye Museum.

A fantasy world before your eyes and even more surrealistic inside your camera! Come and watch magical stories unfolding before your eyes!

Don't forget to download their app so you can see the "3D-ness". The app is available on iOS and Android.

  • Yeosu Maritime Cable Car (여수 해상케이블카)

Yeosu Maritime Cable Car is the first of its kind in Korea, connecting Dolsan Island and the mainland over the ocean. Passengers can choose between the standard cabins and crystal cabins.

In particular, crystal cabins allow passengers to observe the ocean below one's feet, experiencing the thrill of being suspended in mid-air through its transparent flooring.

The duration of the cable - one-way is about 13 minutes while round-trip is approximately 25 minutes. So while you're on the way to the top, you can enjoy the beautiful views down there like we did.

What I like about a country which has four seasons : the vibrancy and colourful trees! Aren't they look wonderful guys?

FOOD
  • Galchi Jorim 갈치조림

For the dinner, we have Galchi Jorim which is a Korean Spicy Braised Beltfish. Basically, Galchi means beltfish (hair tail) and Jorim means braised.

It is a popular braised dish in many Korean homes and restaurants. This recipe can be used with just about any fish, or other seafood like large prawns, lobster, or crab.

We had a pleasant meal we love the fish and the jelly crab. The staff even helped us to break the fishes because there are so many small bones inside.

MVL Hotel Yeosu, located in the city which hosted the 2012 World Expo and one of the top 4 most beautiful ports in the World as well as Odong Island, is a place that gives real worth to the lives of its valued guests. I'm so excited to stay at this hotel. Before I get here, I'm actually googled about it and I can't wait to overnight here.

All rooms look onto the emerald waters of the South Sea, allowing you to feel a sense of relaxation and romanticism. If you had watched my instastories, then you should know how beautiful of this place. I love the how spacious of the room so I can put my luggage everywhere.
