Malacca Day Trip 马六甲一日游

MALACCA DAY TRIP 马六甲一日游
Hello! I'm excited to be back with another popular day trip post. This time, I'll be exploring one of Malaysia's famous states - Malacca, also known as Melaka. Following the positive feedback from my previous Ipoh Day Trip and Johor Day Trip, I'm eager to share more of my adventures with my wonderful readers. This time, I embarked on a spontaneous day trip with my boyfriend and friends.

Malacca is renowned for its rich history and delectable food. It had been over five years since my last visit, so I decided to revisit with my boyfriend. We chose to go on a public holiday, which made the day slightly congested. We opted to drive, and upon arrival, we met up with my boyfriend's friends who were staying there.

Huang Chang Chicken Rice Restaurant (煌昌海南鸡饭)
Our first stop was the renowned Huang Chang Chicken Rice Restaurant (煌昌海南鸡饭), well-known for its signature chicken rice. My boyfriend brought me here because he had heard many rave reviews about the delicious chicken rice at a reasonable price. The place can get quite crowded, so be sure to follow the ordering steps as shown in the photo above.

Huang Chang Chicken Rice Restaurant (煌昌海南鸡饭)
We ordered a plate of chicken and rice balls, which is a popular dish in Malacca. Along with that, we enjoyed two glasses of lime juice. In my opinion, the chicken rice was just okay, but for some reason, my boyfriend really enjoyed it. I guess different people have different tastes! So I wanted to share this experience with you all, as you might like it too. One thing that slightly disappointed me was their chilli sauce. I expected the traditional chicken rice chilli sauce, but they provided chilli oil sauce instead, which I personally didn't find to my liking. However, I understand that each chicken rice restaurant has its unique flavours, so perhaps this is their speciality.

After finishing our brunch and meeting our friends, we decided to explore one of the most famous streets in Malacca - Jonker Street (鸡场街). This street is the heart of Chinatown and was previously known for its antique shops. However, it has transformed over the years into a hub for clothing and craft stores, as well as restaurants. What makes Jonker Street even more special is the night market that comes alive on Fridays and Saturdays, offering a wide range of items from delicious treats to affordable souvenirs.

Jonker Street (鸡场街)
We discovered this boutique hotel located on Jonker Street, and it comes highly recommended on TripAdvisor! So, if you're in search of a well-located and reasonably-priced hotel, this might be worth considering.

Jonker Street (鸡场街)
I found a quaint shop with a diverse selection of items like luggage tags, small bags, fashion accessories, and even a café. I couldn't resist getting myself an adorable kitty bag, which was priced at around RM12.

Ice Egg (鸡蛋冰)
I noticed many people raving about the Ice Egg (鸡蛋冰), so I was quite eager to give it a try. They offered a variety of flavours, and I settled for the strawberry one. It's safe to say that this dessert was the crowd-favourite, as nearly every tourist I saw on Jonker Street was enjoying one!

Ice Egg (鸡蛋冰)
I gave it a try, but to be honest, it tasted just like plain ice! Haha~ The strawberry flavour was quite subtle, and I couldn't really taste the strawberry. But I suppose it's worth trying since many other tourists seem to enjoy it, and it does look quite cute.

Ice Egg (鸡蛋冰)
They even offer other super cute designs like the one in the photo above.

In addition to the food, they also have a shop that offers fashion pieces. I bought three singlets there for casual wear, and if I recall correctly, they cost around RM60 for all three.

As we were passing by this shop, we were suddenly greeted by a delightful aroma. It turned out to be the traditional Chinese biscuits from this store. They take pride in the fact that all their biscuits are freshly baked, guaranteeing a 100% hot and delicious treat.

This Wan Tan Mee is quite popular, although we didn't get a chance to try it before we began exploring other food options. Nevertheless, I've come across many positive reviews online, so when you visit here, you might want to give it a try.

Geographer Cafe, located on Jonker Street, is another well-known cafe. I'm not certain if this one is affiliated with the Geographer Cafe in KL because their designs are quite different. Nevertheless, it's widely praised by internet users as a great place to hang out with friends, especially in the evenings.

Shin Hua recommended trying the Ah Ma Fish Cake, which is known for its popularity and deliciousness. However, when we arrived at the shop, it was packed with a long queue of customers. Regrettably, we had to leave without trying it.

The famous one-bite durian puff on Jonker Street is a must-try, as it's said that if you haven't had one, you haven't truly experienced the street. Even though I've previously tasted the Taste Better one-bite durian puff in KL, I wanted to try the one in Jonker Street to see if there's a difference.

The one-bite durian puff is crafted to be enjoyed in a single bite. They've specially crafted their golden durian custard to create the creamiest and smoothest filling. The recommended way to enjoy it is to pop the whole puff into your mouth, providing an extraordinary and memorable taste experience. They also introduce different flavours according to the seasons, including durian, jackfruit, mango, pineapple, and banana.

Taste Better

Taste Better
Just like the Ah Ma Fish Cake, there's a long queue for the famous durian puff. This popular shop comes highly recommended by TripAdvisor and a local radio station. While they used to have only one flavour, which was durian, they now offer several flavours. We tried the signature flavour and it was absolutely delicious! You need to squeeze the durian puff into your mouth and take a bite. The aroma of durian just bursts in your mouth like "boom"! I highly recommend trying it.

We decided to stop by The Daily Fix Cafe (得益啡) after Xin Yi recommended their delicious signature Pandan Pancake.

The Daily Fix Cafe (得益啡)
The Daily Fix Cafe has a unique retro interior that blends Chinese and Western retro styles. You'll notice a mix of Western-style decor, such as gardening equipment, and traditional old plates on the walls, reminiscent of what our grandparents used in the past.

The Daily Fix Cafe (得益啡)

Upon receiving the menu, you place your order and make payment at the cashier. They'll assign you a table number, which is in the form of a tool used to create the ang ku kueh (红龟粿) shape. Quite interesting, right?

The Daily Fix Cafe (得益啡)

The Daily Fix Cafe (得益啡)
Iced Honey Lemon Tea | RM7.50
It was pretty good. The coffee wasn't overly sweet like some other cafes, and it struck a nice balance, not being too sour either. The portion size in the jar was just right.

The Daily Fix Cafe (得益啡)
Xin Yi ordered a blended beverage, but I'm sorry, I forgot the name. If I recall correctly, it was a strawberry or blueberry iced blended drink, and it cost more than RM10.

Local Pandan Pancake | RM13.90

Ta-da! We finally tried and tested their signature dish, the pandan pancake! I've had various types of pancakes, but this was my first time trying a pandan-flavored pancake. It's made with fragrant pandan leaf extract and served with Gula Melaka and coconut flakes.

The pandan pancake smelled delightful, and when eaten with Gula Melaka, it was just perfect! I highly recommend it. If you want to try other pancake flavours, they also offer classics, durian, banana, and chocolate chip pancakes.

- Eggy Cheese Omelette | RM12.90 -

In addition to the popular pandan pancake, my boyfriend and I also ordered our favourite eggy cheese omelette to try. Both of us are big fans of eggs, so I recommend this dish to readers who share our love for eggs. Overall, I found it quite good because the toast had just the right amount of cheese and omelette. Sometimes, an excessive amount of cheese and eggs can leave you feeling overly full, if you know what I mean. In conclusion, I will definitely visit this cafe again the next time I'm in Malacca. It offers a pleasant environment, friendly staff, and delicious food.

We all know about Inside Scoop in KL, but we were pleasantly surprised to find out it's also available in Malacca! When I spotted the logo, I quickly informed my boyfriend because he loves Inside Scoop. He was thrilled, and we decided to visit to see what the differences might be between the KL and Malacca branches.

Inside Scoop

Inside Scoop

Inside Scoop

Inside Scoop
In terms of the interior, I would say the Malacca branch has a more retro and Chinese-style decor, whereas the KL branch leans more towards a modern design.

Inside Scoop
Sometimes different branches may offer unique flavours, and I suspect that this Cendol flavour is only available in the Malacca branch. I'm not entirely certain since I usually don't order this particular flavour. Typically, I go for durian, Milo, Snickers, and other flavours instead. Please let me know if you find out whether this flavour is also available in KL. (Update: They have informed me that the Cendol flavour is available in KL as well.) Boyfie ordered their premium Musang King Durian flavour and left quite content. Haha!

We're all familiar with the popular Nadeje Mille Crepe cake. Although KL already has several branches, we still wanted to try the Malacca version. Nadeje was established in 2006 and prides itself on using quality fresh ingredients to make the finest handmade Mille Crepe and other special cakes and desserts, all known for their flavorful and satisfying taste.

Nadeje

Nadeje
Even now, there are still many customers queuing for their delicious cakes.

Nadeje
As you can see, they offer a wide variety of Mille crepe flavours, allowing you to choose the one that suits your taste.

Nadeje
In the end, we decided to go with the original, mango, and double chocolate flavors.

Nadeje
Mango Yogurt | RM12.60
A sweet indulgence of mango puree, yoghurt, and creamy cheese. Since my boyfriend doesn't like mango flavours, Xin Yi and I finished the cake. I enjoy both mango and yoghurt flavours, so I found this combination delicious.

Nadeje
Original | RM12.60
The original flavour of Nadeje Mille Crepe is made with homemade custard cream featuring Tahitian Vanilla bean and fresh cream, giving it a smooth and rich taste. Many bloggers highly recommend this flavour for its natural deliciousness.

Nadeje
Double Chocolate | RM12.60
The Black Chocolate Mille Crepe features dark chocolate cream, melted chocolate, and chocolate chips. It's a delightful choice for chocolate lovers, with a not-overly-sweet taste that both you and your boyfriend enjoy.

While Makota Parade doesn't have many shopping options, your visit to try the mille crepe cake was the highlight of this trip. Nonetheless, exploring and seeing anything interesting in the mall is always a possibility.

After a stroll in Makota Parade, you and your boyfriend opted for an early dinner at Amy Heritage Nyonya Cuisine Restaurant. This restaurant specializes in Nyonya cuisine, a blend of Chinese and Malaysian flavours. One of their signature dishes is Otak Otak.

Amy Heritage Nyonya Cuisine Restaurant

Amy Heritage Nyonya Cuisine Restaurant
You might be wondering why all the tables are empty and if there are no customers except for us. However, the reality is quite different. The owner of the restaurant follows a unique approach. They only serve customers who have made prior reservations, ensuring the quality of their food. We had the foresight to book our table about 4-5 hours before dinner because Shin Hua had informed us that they don't accept walk-in customers. This was a wise move as we observed a few disappointed faces of potential diners who hadn't made reservations. Some of them had even come all the way from Singapore just to try the food here. So, be sure to make a reservation before planning your visit.

Amy Heritage Nyonya Cuisine Restaurant
You can easily spot the certificates of their exceptional culinary skills displayed here. It's evident that their expertise and dedication are the reasons behind the restaurant's popularity with customers.

Little Wanton
I didn't taste this dish, but Xin Yi and my boyfriend ordered it. According to him, it was nothing particularly remarkable, but it had an appealing and cute presentation, although the portion size was small.

Amy Heritage Nyonya Cuisine Restaurant
Our food had arrived!

Amy Heritage Nyonya Cuisine Restaurant
Taufu Goreng | RM11 (Medium), RM17 (Large)
I enjoyed this dish, as I have a preference for tofu and mushrooms. It's fried Japanese tofu topped with minced chicken, prawns, and Chinese mushrooms.

Amy Heritage Nyonya Cuisine Restaurant
Kangkung KobisKeledek Masak Titik Lemak | RM14 (Medium), RM20 (Large)
This dish contains water convolvulus, cabbage, and sweet potatoes cooked in coconut milk. It's not my favourite because I found it too milky, and I'm not a big fan of consuming too much coconut milk. However, my boyfriend and friends enjoyed it, so you might want to give it a try.

Amy Heritage Nyonya Cuisine Restaurant
Ayam Pongteh | RM18 (Medium), RM25 (Large)
This classic Nyonya chicken stew is prepared with soya bean paste, Chinese mushrooms, and potatoes. It's quite delicious, and I particularly enjoy the mushrooms and potatoes. You can even mix the paste with your rice for added flavour.

Amy Heritage Nyonya Cuisine Restaurant
Amy's Ayam Goreng | RM13 (4pcs), RM24 (8pcs)
Amy's special fried chicken is a must-try! As the name suggests, it's Amy's special recipe for fried chicken, and it's both delicious and not too oily. You should definitely give it a try.

Amy Heritage Nyonya Cuisine Restaurant
Overall, I believe it's worthwhile to visit this restaurant to savour the delicious and authentic Nyonya dishes. Just a friendly reminder, be sure to make a reservation in advance so you don't end up disappointed and leaving with a frown. Enjoy your meal!
