Skincare Routine Against Pollution

SKINCARE ROUTINE AGAINST POLLUTION

One of the major drawbacks of living in the city is dealing with air pollution on a daily basis.

Pollutants are so tiny that they can enter the pores of your skin. The fine pollutant particles in the air range from 2.5 to 10 microns, enough to go through your skin pores, which measure about 50-70 microns.

Pollutants include black carbon, sulfates, and nitrates from vehicle emissions and other sources, which put your respiratory systems and skin at risk. These particles activate inflammation once they enter the skin, causing pore-clogging, skin irritation and discoloration, as well as premature skin aging.

To shield your skin from the damaging effects of pollution, you need to include vitamin C and other antioxidants in your diet and skincare routine. They can prevent the buildup of free radicals that normally occur when pollutants enter your skin. These free radicals destroy your body's mechanism against premature aging.

Antioxidants play an important part in protecting your cells from the harm brought by free radicals. Meanwhile, vitamin C reduces inflammation.

You can follow this anti-pollution facial skincare routine to strengthen your defense against air pollution:
1. Cleanse your face two times a day
Because you’re exposed to stuff like smog and cigarette smoke as you go through your daily tasks, cleansing is a must at the start and end of your day. Get rid of the grime, oil, and sweat on your face using anti-pollution cleansing cream.

2. Put on an antioxidant serum
Along with sunscreen, antioxidant serums are the best defense for the skin against the effects of UV rays and pollution. Serums have plenty of active ingredients that get absorbed more easily by the skin. You can also incorporate the product into your nightly routine after cleansing.

3. Moisturize
Pick a moisturizer that will provide day-long hydration to make up for the loss of moisture and oil buildup after cleansing.

4. Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen
The US Food and Drug Administration recommends using a sunscreen with an SPF value of 15 or higher. You can also go for a moisturizer with SPF to shorten your skin care routine.

5. Use a face mask three times a week.
Face masks work with cleansers to decongest your skin by removing or lifting off the toxic residues that settle on your skin after exposure outdoors. Depending on the mask you use, your face will enjoy a short burst of concentrated active ingredients because of the face mask’s extended contact time with your skin. Use masks with salicylic acid, tea tree oil, kaolin clay, and absorbent clays if your skin is congested or acne-prone.

6. Exfoliate
If you have dry skin, you can use an oil-based product once to three times a week before applying the serum at night. Those with normal or combination skin can exfoliate on alternate days, two to three times weekly.

Don't let pollution get the best of your skin. Regular daytime and nighttime skincare routine will ensure that your skin stays clean and young as you enjoy the city life.
