Finally, I’ve visited a country whose name starts with the letter “Z”! When I was a kid, the only country I knew that started with “Z” was Zimbabwe🇿🇼. I remember being curious about this country and wondering what it was actually like, but I never imagined that one day I would be standing there and experiencing it for myself. Fast-forward to today, and here I am, finally exploring Zimbabwe! From its incredible wildlife and breathtaking landscapes to the mighty Victoria Falls and unforgettable safari experiences, the country completely exceeded my expectations. It was one of those trips that reminded me how amazing it feels to turn a childhood curiosity into a real-life adventure.
So, if Zimbabwe has ever been on your travel radar, or if you’re simply curious about what this beautiful country has to offer, keep reading! In this guide, I’ll be sharing some of the best things to do in Zimbabwe, including the places we visited, experiences we had, and highlights that made our trip so memorable.
Victoria Falls
One of the biggest highlights of my Zimbabwe trip was finally seeing Victoria Falls, one of the world’s most spectacular natural wonders. Known locally as Mosi-oa-Tunya, meaning “The Smoke That Thunders,” the name perfectly captures the sheer power of the falls. As millions of litres of water plunge over the edge into the Zambezi Gorge, a huge cloud of mist rises into the air, creating an incredible sight that can be seen from quite a distance. Standing in front of the falls and hearing the thunderous roar of the water was truly an unforgettable experience.
There are also plenty of incredible viewpoints to explore around Victoria Falls, each offering a different perspective of this natural wonder. From Devil’s Cataract and Main Falls to Rainbow Falls, every viewpoint has its own charm, especially when the mist catches the sunlight and creates beautiful rainbows. We were incredibly lucky during our visit because we spotted a double rainbow almost the entire time!
Beyond simply admiring the scenery, visitors can also experience Victoria Falls through activities such as scenic helicopter flights, sunset cruises along the Zambezi River and adventurous activities around the falls. It’s one of those places that really has to be seen in person to appreciate just how magnificent it is.

Helicopter Ride
And guess what? I took my first-ever helicopter ride! I finally got the chance to experience a helicopter flight, and what better way to make my first flight truly unforgettable than by seeing Victoria Falls from above? Seeing one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World from the sky was absolutely surreal. From above, I could truly appreciate the sheer scale of the falls — the endless roar of water, the mist rising dramatically from the gorge, and the breathtaking landscape stretching all around.
It was one of those “I can’t believe I’m actually here” moments that I’ll remember forever. Honestly, I couldn’t have asked for a better view for my first helicopter ride. It was thrilling, breathtaking and completely unforgettable — definitely another once-in-a-lifetime memory checked off my bucket list!
Oh ya, for those who are asking, the cost is US$220 per pax.
Lion Walk
The craziest thing I did in Africa… and no, it’s not AI. Walking alongside a lion in Zimbabwe, yes, an actual lion! It is an experience I’ll never forget. Being just a few steps away from one of the world’s most majestic predators was equal parts thrilling, terrifying and humbling. Watching it walk so calmly, with that incredible power, grace and confidence, was something no photo or video could ever truly capture. There was something surreal about being so close to such a magnificent animal while knowing just how powerful it really is.
Honestly, my heart was racing the entire time! But every second was worth it. This was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience and easily one of the most unforgettable moments of my African adventure.
Cost : US$170 per person
Now I have to ask… would you dare to walk alongside a lion? You may check out the reels below for reference.
The Boma - Dinner and Drum Show
One of the most unforgettable dining experiences I had in Zimbabwe was at The Boma – Dinner & Drum Show in Victoria Falls. More than just a dinner, it was a full cultural experience from start to finish.
We were welcomed with traditional music and performances before sitting down to enjoy a generous buffet of local and international dishes. From grilled meats and hearty sides to traditional Zimbabwean flavours, there was so much to try. The atmosphere was lively and warm, with music, dancing and entertainment happening throughout the evening, making dinner feel less like a meal and more like a celebration of Zimbabwean culture.
And guess what… I actually ate mopane worms! One of the region's most famous traditional delicacies, mopane worms are a good source of protein and are enjoyed by many locals.
I have to admit, seeing them on my plate was definitely a “Should I really do this?” moment. But what happened in Zimbabwe stays in Zimbabwe, right? So, I took a deep breath and gave it a try! It was definitely one of those travel moments I'll never forget. Would you be brave enough to try mopane worms?
The Lookout Cafe
If you're looking for a memorable dinner with a view in Zimbabwe, The Lookout Cafe at Victoria Falls is definitely one to put on your list. Nominated by The World Culinary Awards Committee as Best Landmark Restaurant in Africa. Perched high above the Batoka Gorge, the café offers an incredible vantage point over the surrounding landscape, and it becomes even more magical as the sun begins to set.
Sitting there with the warm African evening light, watching the landscape change colour while enjoying dinner, felt like one of those travel moments where the view becomes just as important as the food.
And the food was definitely worth talking about too! We had ostrich carpaccio, roasted pumpkin soup, a Hawaiian chicken burger, cauliflower risotto, tiramisu cheesecake and pecan tart with vanilla ice cream. From trying something uniquely Zimbabwean like ostrich carpaccio to ending the meal with a sweet pecan tart, it was such a fun mix of flavours. Add the breathtaking scenery, the peaceful surroundings and that beautiful African sunset, and it turned into a dinner experience that I’ll remember long after leaving Victoria Falls.

Elephant Hills Resort
Staying at Elephant Hills Resort in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe was such a memorable part of the trip. Perched high above the Zambezi River, the resort is surrounded by beautiful Zimbabwean landscapes, and the views are especially stunning in the early morning and around sunset. There’s something incredibly peaceful about waking up to the sounds and scenery of the African wilderness, while still having all the comforts of a full-service resort. And yes, the name definitely fits; you may even spot elephants and other wildlife around the property!
What I loved most was the atmosphere; it felt like the perfect place to slow down after a day of exploring Victoria Falls. From enjoying the scenery around the resort to relaxing with a drink and taking in the vast landscape, Elephant Hills gave us a wonderful taste of the beauty and wild spirit of Zimbabwe.
It wasn't just a place to stay; it was part of the Zimbabwe experience itself, and waking up surrounded by such incredible nature made the trip feel even more special.

Zimbabwe is so much fun! Honestly, I had no idea I would enjoy this place this much! Most of my friends who have travelled to Africa usually visit destinations like South Africa or Kenya, so I never really had Zimbabwe high on my list. But after experiencing it for myself, I can confidently say that Zimbabwe is absolutely worth visiting too! From the breathtaking Victoria Falls and incredible wildlife to the food, culture and unforgettable experiences, there’s so much to discover here. If you're planning an Africa trip, I’d strongly recommend adding Zimbabwe to your itinerary.
Alright, now we’re down to the South Africa blog posts! 🇿🇦 I just need a little more time for those because there are so many destinations, activities and experiences to cover. There’s definitely a lot more coming, so please bear with me while I slowly put everything together. Till then, that’s a wrap on Zimbabwe!
