For the longest time, I wanted to visit but could never find the right travel partner. That plan kept getting postponed… until 2026, when I finally made it happen with a friend. What followed was a short, laid-back, free-and-easy trip, no packed itinerary, no rush, just slow travel, spontaneous plans, and genuine moments. And honestly? That’s what made Brunei so special.
From golden mosques that glow at sunset to peaceful water villages and unexpectedly good local food, Brunei surprised me in the best way possible. It may not be the most “hyped” destination, but it has a quiet charm that stays with you. Located in Bandar Seri Begawan, the restaurant specialises in traditional Chinese dishes made from fresh, high-quality ingredients. From dim sum and roasted meats to seafood and speciality soups, every dish is prepared with care to deliver rich flavours and a memorable dining experience. The restaurant’s modern yet welcoming interior makes it perfect for family gatherings, celebrations, or a casual meal with friends.
Fun fact : We were supposed to have lunch at Thien Thien Chicken Rice, but our local Dart driver told us that since it’s Ramadan, only takeaway is allowed — no dine-in. We were quite shocked as we didn’t know about this and weren’t sure what to do while heading there. Fortunately, the driver, Uncle Vincent, recommended another nearby non-halal restaurant that allows dine-in. He mentioned that he visits it quite often and that the food is great, so here we are at New Golden Leaf Restaurant 😂
Interesting Facts about Brunei
- During Ramadan, every Friday between 12pm and 2pm, most shops, including those in shopping malls, are closed. You won’t find many restaurants open during this time, so plan accordingly.
- On regular days during Ramadan, open restaurants are required to cover their windows so people outside cannot see those dining inside.
- Only non-halal restaurants are allowed to offer dine-in, while Muslim-friendly restaurants typically allow takeaway only.
