Chanshuo Woorao Glamping

CHANSHUO WOORAO GLAMING
Due to the overwhelming response from my previous post about glamping, where I shared my first experience, many of you have requested that I share more about my other glamping adventures. Well, today I'm excited to talk about Chanshuo Woorao Glamping, a place that both my mother and I thoroughly enjoyed! So, let's dive right in and discover more about this remarkable destination. Keep reading to unveil the details!

About WooRao

In the Atayal language, the term "WooRao" translates to "fertile land". Situated in the Bailan Village of Wufeng Township, Hsinchu Country, this land is protected by ancestral watchfulness, veiled in clouds and mist, and can be reached by traversing layers of ethereal white clouds. Once you arrive, you'll be greeted by a lavish camping area adorned in the style of the Atayal tribe. This unique fusion of Atayal culture and modern luxury camping allows you to immerse yourself fully in the local culture and atmosphere during your one-night, two-meal stay.

As you gaze out, you'll be treated to breathtaking views of cascading mountain peaks, enveloped by layers of majestic cypress trees. The vibrant green landscape will nourish both your body and soul.

Personally, I favour this glamping place for its uphill location, and cooler temperatures thanks to the higher altitude.

In the springtime, the mountains come alive with the vivid hues of pink cherry blossoms and white plum blossoms, adding a splash of colour to the verdant surroundings.

  • Pink Fuji cherry blossoms from February to March
  • Firefly season from April to May
  • Hydrangea from May to July
  • July to August beetle season
It's unfortunate that we arrived during the summer season, otherwise, we could have enjoyed the sakura up close.

In this enchanting place, you might come across stick insects, flying squirrels, and even the tiniest owl found in Taiwan. The richness of the ecology makes it feel like you've stepped into a true paradise. In addition to the tent, there is also a fireplace outside.

Create your own forest-inspired woven key ring through a do-it-yourself (DIY) process. Feel free to make adjustments as needed, based on the materials and instructions available on the site. Take it as a souvenir.

Room type

Harvest Land Tent
Generations ago, the landlord's ancestors were the pioneers who initially settled in this very location. If you're fortunate enough in the morning, you'll be treated to the mesmerising sight of a sea of clouds embracing the area, while at night, the starry sky casts its spell. During spring, the tent is enveloped by cherry blossom trees, and as the pink blossoms dance in the breeze, they create a breathtaking scene amidst the mountainous backdrop. The tent itself measures a generous 5 meters in size.

Inside the tent
Two double beds, sofa, table lamp, clothes hanger, fan, bath towel, liquid electric mosquito coil, mosquito repellant, earplugs, outdoor tables and chairs.

The tent is incredibly spacious and cosy.

Shared bathroom facilities
In order to support green tourism, no disposable supplies (toothbrushes, toothpaste) are provided.

In addition to the toilet and bathroom, they also provide a powder room.

Valley Deer Tent
Nestled within the valley, the landscape is adorned with tall and steadfast fir trees, forming a natural protective barrier that exudes tranquillity and a sense of security. As night falls, the stars generously sprinkle their brilliance across the surroundings, providing a serene backdrop to marvel at the graceful dance of tree shadows swaying gently in the caress of the wind.

Being a Twilight fan, this area brings back memories of scenes from the movie.

Good Winter Cabin
Nestled on the mountainside, a quaint log cabin gazes upon the valley and its cascading layers of mountains. As evening descends, the sky becomes a canvas painted with magnificent hues of golden, orange, and purple, courtesy of the dark red sunset.

The cabin's interior boasts a cosy ambience, featuring two comfortable double beds, a table lamp, a clothes hanger, and a fan. For added convenience, there are bath towels, a liquid electric mosquito coil, and anti-mosquito liquid provided. Additionally, to ensure a pleasant stay during the colder months from October to April, guests can avail themselves of an electric blanket.

One-night stay with two meals

Indulge in a unique experience by staying in a magnificent sailboat-shaped tent and treat yourself to a delightful welcome snack at 2.30pm. Later, at 6.00pm, savour a special indigenous dinner featuring a lavish spread of nearly 30 dishes. This extraordinary culinary journey showcases local indigenous ingredients like scallions, makau, shudou, and roselle salt wood.

High-tea
Upon checking in, we were treated to a delightful high-tea session, featuring cute mini pancakes, a selection of beverages, and some delicious biscuits.

Dinner
The dishes are masterfully prepared using traditional Atayal tribe cooking techniques, including carbon fire cooking and smoking, combined with French stewing methods. Prepare yourself for a sumptuous feast that blends cultural heritage and exquisite flavours.

I absolutely adored the soup, mushroom rice, and berries bread pudding! They were all incredibly delicious. Moreover, the owner's kindness was evident throughout our stay, and we even had the opportunity to taste the rice wine they brew themselves. It was a wonderful experience.

Breakfast
The breakfast selection includes a variety of options such as scrambled eggs, quail eggs with mushrooms, cereals, pumpkin porridge, and much more.

Atayal Hunting Trail
Starting with a mountain entry ceremony and carrying a sense of awe in their hearts, guests follow a hunting guide along the trail, searching for the footprints of prey and listening to stories of the bravery of their ancestors as hunters. Through guided tours and on-site visits, guests can explore Atayal hunting culture and learn about the gratitude and respect that the Atayal people have for living in harmony with the mountains and forests.

Regrettably, we couldn't participate in the Atayal Hunting Trail due to the rain. However, we made the best of it by gathering around the fireplace and roasting marshmallows for our supper.
