THINGS TO DO IN PAMUKKALE, TURKEY
I know I have been hardworking because here comes the Pamukkale itinerary! When I shared Cotton Castle on Instagram, my followers keep asking me to share more details. Well, here you go, guys! Check out more info about this province, things to do and what to eat here.

About Pamukkale
Pamukkale

Pamukkale is a town in western Turkey known for the mineral-rich thermal waters flowing down white travertine terraces on a nearby hillside. It neighbours Hierapolis, an ancient Roman spa city founded around 190 B.C. Ruins there include a well-preserved theatre and a necropolis with sarcophagi that stretch for 2km. The Antique Pool is famous for its submerged Roman columns, the result of an earthquake.

Cotton Castle
Cotton Castle

Pamukkale, meaning "cotton castle" in Turkish, is a natural site in Denizli province in southwestern Turkey. The area is famous for a carbonate mineral left by the flowing of thermal spring water.

Cotton Castle

Through time, the hot springs released mineral-rich water onto the hilly landscape below, which formed a unique natural structure that looks like a cotton castle.

It was a challenge when you take a walk here. Some parts of the mineral are spiky, so you can feel the pain when you step on it. While some parts are really slippery that might you almost fall down. I worried my mom will fall down so I keep holding her hand and ask her to walk slowly. If you're coming with your family (especially the elderly), make sure to take good care of them.

The terraces themselves were once open to the public but erosion and water pollution led to the closure of those, though you can still walk amongst the now pristine terraces. You can't walk in the natural terraces of Pamukkale, but they look better for it.

Sultanhani Caravanserai
Sultanhani Caravanserai

Sultan Han is a large 13th-century Seljuk Caravanserai located in the town of Sultanhani, Aksaray province. It is one of the three monumental caravanserais in the neighbourhood of Aksaray and is located about 40km west of Aksaray on the road to Konya.

Sultanhani Caravanserai
The Sultanhan caravanserai was built in 1229 by Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad I when Aksaray was an important stopover along the Silk Road that crossed through Anatolia. After suffering partial destruction in the fire, the building was restored and extended in 1278 under the reign of sultan Kaykhusraw III. The monumental caravanserai then became one of the best examples of Anatolian Seljuk architecture. The caravanserai enjoyed its glory times during the Seljuk period but lost its importance during the Ottoman era. More recent restorations were made during the Republic period and opened to visitors.

Obruk
Obruk

Kizoren Sinkhole aka Kizoren Obruk or Lake Kizoren is a sinkhole containing a karst lake near Konya in the historic Konya vilayet, central Turkey. Kizoren Obruk is situated in the centre of the Central Anatolian steppes, 65km northeast of the city of Konya. In Turkish, the word obruk means a vertical depression or shaft in a karst landscape which has been formed via karstification in two directions : downwards (from the surface into the ground by infiltration through minor cracks and joints) and upwards (from karstic underground cavities towards the surface by evaporation through minor cracks and joints).

For a long time, it was believed that the lake waters are still, but now knowing the water flows slowly from one lake to the other from underneath.

Food
Kirazli Bahce
Kirazli Bahce

We went to a restaurant called Kirazli Bahce for our lunch. It was a local cuisine and there are a convenient store nearby.

Kirazli Bahce

We tried lentil soup (yes, lentil not tomato soup although the colour doesn't look like it), naan, pizza and chicken served with rice. We love the pizza by the way.

Turkish Yoghurt with Honey and Poppy Seed
Turkish Yogurt with Honey and Poppy Seed

Turkish yoghurt with honey and poppy seed is a traditional dessert in Konya, Turkey.

I tried several Turkish desserts and this actually is one of my favourites (others are too sweet for me)

Turkish Yogurt with Honey and Poppy Seed

They served you a huge portion of yoghurt on a plate, spoon a generous amount of local honey and then sprinkle the entire thing with poppy seeds. Just mix it all together before you eat it. It tastes uniquely sweet, yet slightly sour.

To be honest, we ordered this for sharing and we couldn't finish this! The portion is too big for us and we feel guilty because we don't want to waste food. Sobs.
