About ORINGO

The theme of "House of Shoemaker", is a shoe store inspired by the work and life of shoemakers. Songyan Store, located in the alleys of Zhongxiao East Road, has a spacious, comfortable and green European-style shoe-trying space. In addition to footwear products, there are also premium branch products, ORINGO W women’s shoe series, exclusive designs, gentlemen’s selections, etc.

A series of products, it is a gentleman's taste shop with the most abundant "full series of shoes" of Linguo. Songyan Store B1 is the Lin Guo performance space, which started as a "shoe store" and transformed into a platform for creative exchanges with more Taiwanese.

The Interior

To be honest, this is my first time visiting this area and I found it interesting. When I arrived at the store, we mistakenly thought it was another coffee shop (from the outside). But then, when we enter, we were like ahhhh they are selling shoes and feel like I step into a shoe store in London or something lol.

Using the old building structure, restore the original front courtyard to create a homely atmosphere. The visual difference between indoor/outdoor and semi-open spaces allows the elements of nature to permeate the entire space. The colour of the veneer is polished with deliberately low chroma, and the old-fashioned construction method is used to highlight the characteristics of the shoes and create a retro concept of "Old Good Time" that Lin Guoliangpin loves.

Different from other stores, the setting of the Songyan store is more European country retro, combined with some Taiwanese elements (such as old flower windows/cypress work table), plus the concept of more green flowers and plants, and a large number of iron parts. The brick walls are exposed and the woodwork is combined with shoes, books and plants, adding more sense of life and art, just like peeping into the living space of a family.

The Songyan area is full of a cultural and creative atmosphere, it is integrated into an area with coffee and books. In conclusion, the vibe and interior of this store are like 一股清流~

The Products
New loafer last: timeless 1:3 golden ratio
The most basic thing in shoemaking is the ratio of vamp to 1:3. This pair of penny loafers were made with this ratio as the starting point. Today’s loafers have a variety of designs. In order to better meet the trend of the times, the length of many lasts is shortened; in order to better meet the needs of most people, the length is moderate, and it is retro and elegant when paired with dresses and socks with round skirts; Or pair it with the popular floor-to-ceiling wide trousers. When the trousers slightly cover the upper, they will not look sharp enough.

Many brands do not design a suitable last for loafers. The biggest difference between loafers and Oxfords or Derbys is whether they have laces, so many loafers will not fit when they are in the foot. Adhering to the spirit of being "suitable for Asian foot shapes", Lin Guo redesigned the last while adjusting the length of the shoe last to make it more comfortable.

The devil is in the details, the secret of comfort and beauty. If you touch the sides of the shoe body or carefully observe the changes in light and shadow, you will find that gentleman leather shoes have obvious concave-convex streamlines, which are not just for aesthetics but also affect the wearing experience. The concave design of the inner waist extends all the way to the heel and then protrudes slowly. The purpose is to cover the foot and provide a more supportive feeling. At the same time, the three-dimensional changes conform to ergonomics, so that the toes or the sides of the foot will not be tight and uncomfortable. If you look from top to bottom, you will find that the arc and lines of the U-tip are very round, exuding elegance.

Besides shoes, of course, you will need a pair of socks. I like how they organised and display the stockings like this, based on colour tone and pattern.

Besides shoes, they also brought in products such as hats, bags and ties from other brands as well. Feel free to check them out.

1940 Penny Loafer Women

Due to the special report of the fashion magazine "Esquire Gentleman Magazine", loafers became popular among American college students. In 1936, the first pair of loafers were produced by G.H Bass Company (George Henry Bass), and they were named "Weejun".

The period when loafers began to flourish was in 1940. Students at Ivy League schools regarded the belt (Penny Keeper) stuffed in the opening as a trend indicator, so there goes the name "Penny Loafer". At the same time, the theory of "designated shoes of college style" was born in the fashion industry, which established Penny Loafer's position in leather shoes.

It is a pair of universal leather shoes without gender restrictions and social classes. At the same time, it also changed the dressing culture and still has a place today.

Under the idea of equality between men and women, more and more With more and more professional women, loafers are still very popular, and they began to extend the matching of loafers to dresses and miniskirts, which continues to this day.

My whole shopping experience in ORINGO was superb! From explaining the products, and fitting to after-service, everything is top-notch! They provide socking and slippers for you to wear during the fitting which I personally think it was so thoughtful.

They also have a small card state that who is the shoe designer which is lovely. After purchase, if you feel you want the shoes to be polished, they can help with free of charge for the first time as well.

Overall, this is a great opportunity for me to pay a visit and to know more history about the brand and handmade leather shoes. If you're a fan of handmade leather shoes, don't forget to visit their shop here when you're in Taipei.
