Any ice cream lover here? Or should I say #matcha fans? Some of you might already heard about Matcha Eight since they are quite popular lately. It is located in a new mall called LaLaport BBCC. If you're a huge fan of matcha then you shouldn't miss this because their ice cream can make those matcha addicts keep craving for it. Sounds attractive? Continue reading to find out more.

About Matcha Eight

For your info, Matcha Eight serves artisanal, premium and 100% natural Japanese tea ice cream made with the finest single-origin tea powder imported from Wazuka town, Kyoto Prefecture.

They are proud to support these farmers who have running the family-inherited tea plantations for decades. Each of their ice cream flavours is made using the single-origin tea powder harvested by these farmers respectively to bring out the most authentic tea taste in their ice cream.

They are the first premium Japanese tea ice cream artisan in Malaysia offering sencha, matcha and hojicha series of varying tea richness to suit everyone's palate. We all knew there are quite a few cafes that focus on matcha, but sencha and hojicha? Not much right? That's what makes Matcha Eight different. It is hard to find premium and authentic Japanese tea ice cream in the city despite a good demand for cold desserts. Thus, that's how Matcha Eight started their journey.

Michelin-starred Chef Recipe
They strive to serve you the best natural Japanese tea ice cream that lifts up your mood and puts a smile on your face, one scoop at a time.
Matcha Eight is a creation of culinary art and passion with an exclusive partnership with Michelin-starred Master Chef Takuji Takahashi from Kyoto. He masterfully devised each recipe for Matcha Eight ice cream without additives and preservatives, so what you get is natural, authentic and premium Japanese tea ice cream.

Flavour Guide | Discover Your Tea Taste

Each of their ice cream flavours has a distinct taste of what Master Chef Takahashi describes as a "unique character". If you are new to Matcha Eight, hope this guide will help you understand and choose the flavour that suits your taste buds.

Since they are called "Matcha Eight", of course, they have a total of 8 flavours of ice cream.

Lovesick Girl
The sencha has a pleasant aftertaste that disappears quickly and smoothly. The taste is light, with a fine minty coolness.

Soulmate
The moderate sweetness and gentle bitterness of matcha linger, followed by the rich, deep flavour of sencha and a clean, crisp aftertaste.

Maybe It's Love
The mild and creamy taste of matcha is similar to that of a cup of frothy green tea. Light and easy, it is your everyday indulgence.

Matcha Me Tonight
This is a classic blend of Matcha Eight. This flavour balances creaminess with the moderate bitter-sweetness of matcha, appealing to everyone who loves the rich taste of matcha yet not overly intense.

Hocus Matcha-cus
The sensation of biting into a tea leaf. It contains twice the amount of matcha in Matcha Me Tonight. An ice cream with a fine texture, made possible by the quality of the matcha used. This flavour is highly sought after by hardcore matcha lovers. An experience not to be missed.

Melodrama Queen
The richest flavour of all, Melodrama queen is dark in colour and relatively bitter, with a robust matcha aroma and taste. A perfect blend of matcha and sencha, its bitterness with the mild sweetness that follows is very pleasant and addictive.

Hojilicious
This hojicha flavour is an all-time favourite for the sweet tooth! The roasted tea gives an earthy tone to the ice cream, often mistaken as a chocolate flavour at a glimpse. Its long aftertaste of coffee-like is simply enticing for the palate. Many who don't fancy tea ice cream will be surprised by how likeable Hojilicious is.

Ho Ho Hoji
A double shot of Hojilicious, this flavour has an intense hojicha aroma tastefully balanced with strong roast bitterness that you have never experienced before. Such superior quality can only be achieved with the finest roasted tea leaves.

LaLaport BBCC

Matcha Eight started selling online about one year ago. They opened a physical shop in LaLaport Bukit Bintang City Centre (BBCC) this January 2022. They used to sell only 4 flavours on their website. I feel so happy to finally taste all the 8 flavours of ice cream.

It's located on the G floor, the gourmet street which is the same row as Starbucks. Their shop is for take out type. There are a few seats outside of the shop but very limited.

Since they are popular and almost queue every weekend, I would strongly suggest paying a visit early in the morning.

Since they are popular with matcha, it's a MUST to try their strong matcha flavours such as hocus matcha-cus and melodrama queen.

I had ordered Melodrama Queen and added on the toppings (azuki and mochi). Love the mochi as it is handmade and has a doink doink texture. The matcha ice cream flavour is strong and creamy texture. It will definitely remind you of Japan. Kindly note that these toppings are only available for cup orders. If you had ordered a cone, then these toppings cannot be added.

As I'm not really a huge fan of matcha, I fall in love with the hojicha series. There are two hojicha flavours but my favourite would be the Ho Ho Hoji because it consists of the double portion of hojicha powder.

If you're not a green tea person, I would recommend you to give it a try, you will definitely fall in love with their hojicha ice cream. The strong roasted tea aroma will fill your mouth instantly! And guess what, this flavour is one of their top customer favourites so it might be sold out fast. Remember to order this when you pay a visit.

Besides mochi and red bean paste, gold flakes are one of the toppings too. They have sakura and stars shape for you to choose from and they are the same price. I personally love the sakura shape because I think it's more unique (compare to the shape of the stars).

Look at this photo! Paired well with my matcha ice cream right? The green colour makes the gold flakes pop out!

Looking forward to revisiting to try all other flavours. If you have friends who love matcha a lot, don't forget to bring them here! They will love it! Their strong matcha and hojicha flavour will remind you of Japan.
